The Raymond Phoenix Institute (RPI) was incorporated in January 2006 to help Raymond College alumni, faculty, and associates connect with old friends, meet other alumni, coordinate events, find resources, develop educational programs, and engage in ongoing dialogues. It’s our personal, private alumni association.
RPI serves as the business entity for the Raymond community. It raises and manages money, provides financial support and direction, and reflects the needs and interests of the Raymond community.
Many different alumni, professors, and others have contributed their thoughts and ideas, their skills and training, their efforts, and even their cold hard cash to the cause.
The Raymond College Phoenix is the ultimate symbol of strength and renewal. As both a fire and solar symbol, the phoenix is symbolic of the sun, which “dies” in setting each night only to be reborn in rising the next morning. Every student at Raymond went through their own transformation. For the college itself, the Phoenix represents the rebirth of the college with each new student who attends, and each new professor who teaches. After the college formally closed, the phoenix represents our transformation from a physical college to an intentional community.
Culture The Raymond Phoenix Institute is an intentional community committed to interdisciplinary learning, academic exploration and service to the greater Raymond College alumni, faculty and friends. Raymond Phoenix Institute arose from the open, ethical and caring Raymond College community. It promotes dialogue, respect, intellectual exploration, rigor and civility among its members. Our community values intellectual vitality, the well-being of its members and service to our larger communities.
